Gateway monitor marks premiere of display-based HD protection scheme

The HDCP Video Content Encryption Chip allows encrypted high-definition video to be played on the display through the DVI port. Some will interpret "future software packages" to include Microsoft Windows Vista, which will support HDCP internally, Microsoft announced last April. Graphics power is key to playing HD videos on a PC
- News
Graphics power is key to playing HD videos on a PC. nvidia hdcp graphics card presentation. Such hurdles include the lack of HD-capable playback software, the lack of a complete chain of devices supporting HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) or - very simply - a lack of processing power to decode the video stream. If you are among those, make sure that you are buying a graphics card that clearly indicates HDCP support ; otherwise you are stuck with an empty screen. Vouri told us that there won’t be Nvidia graphic card sequence numbers dedicated to HDCP - it’s pretty much up to the add-in card builders to integrate the chip. The only way to find out whether a card has HDCP capability will be a special marking on the box of the product....

How To Build, Part 1: Component Selection Overview
- Articles & reviews
Both AMD and nVidia insist on the need for discrete graphics cards to allow smooth playback of the highest-quality content, and offer products with integrated HDCP support. HDCP ensures that HD content cannot be transmitted to a recording device, by requiring a detection device on both the transmitter (graphics card) and receiver (HD display). Both components must contain an HDCP key to ensure authenticity, which is supposed to prevent the unscrupulous manufacture of recording devices with falsified HDCP signatures. HDCP has been adapted to several DVI devices, but any combination that includes a non-compliant component will be forced to reduce image quality. While a few similar models have since appeared, higher-performance HDCP cards usually use the older DVI standard more common to PC displays....

Gateway monitor marks premiere of display-based HD protection scheme
- Articles & reviews
Gateway monitor marks premiere of display-based HD protection scheme. gateway hdcp. Some marketing literature has attempted to distinguish HDCP from copy protection schemes, perhaps to appease movie studios and content providers whom this technology directly addresses. But HDCP is a kind of copy protection scheme, but using network terminology, it "resides at the transport level." In August of last year, the US Federal Communications Commission formally adopted HDCP. The HDCP technical protocol itself does not stipulate how devices are to function when connected digitally to non-compliant devices, or those that don't speak the language....
