Last week's release of quarterly financial results by 3dfx, STB, and Nvidia set me up on this vitriol. I don't really care about either companies financial performance, as such, but I am dismayed at the way these results have been hyped by all the parties concerned, and in the way they have gone unquestioned among the 3D graphics enthusiasts who question every frame of every benchmark. Last week I suggested Sony was getting better and almost as if Sony wanted to prove me wrong they released their financials which certainly didn't support my conclusion. Still, financials are generally a lagging indicator of both improvements and problems, because they reflect past events rather than future trends....
