They started to admit that it might well be that my sample was faulty. It is not that uncommon that Intel processors might be faulty. Bottom Line Two days ago Intel has released a new high-end processor and already now two samples seem to be faulty. If the percentage of faulty parts is just as high in the shipments to the OEMs Intel has got a major disaster at hands. Let's see, maybe Intel is right and Kyle's as well as my Pentium III 1.13 GHz sample were indeed the only faulty ones....

In short: Every perturbance in the clock signal results in a faulty data transmission. When the receiver samples the faulty data stream using a "perfect" clock signal of a hypothetical internal PLL clock, it catches the wrong data (yellow line). How it really works: If the receiver uses the faulty clock signal of the transmitter it can still read the faulty data stream (red line). The receiver needs the same (faulty) clock signal. When both components rely on the same faulty clock signal, this allows for an error-free reading out of the faulty data stream....

You certainly remember the report , stating that my test sample was faulty and concluding that other samples might be faulty as well. Before the engineer arrived at Kyle's lab in Texas, he asked Anand Lal Shimpi from AnandTech for his obviously working sample and me for my faulty part as well. This kernel compilation was never able to run on my faulty 1.13 GHz sample, while it ran fine with any other Intel CPU, including overclocked Pentium III 1 GHz and 933 MHz samples. Intel still refrained from really admitting that my sample is faulty....
