Call of Duty 4 Beta Impressions
- Articles & reviews
Leveling up and completing weapon challenges - like kill 25 enemies with the M16 - unlocks new skins for the weapons and a variety of attachments. If you get three kills without dying you can call out the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) which marks the position of all the enemies on the map for 30 seconds. Enemies show up on the radar whenever they shoot during normal play but when the UAV is up you can see them all the time. After seven you can call in a helicopter that will fly around the battlefield and lay waste to any enemy it comes across with a high-caliber machine gun. It can be pretty devastating and they are surprisingly good at finding enemies under cover....

Crysis makes a breathtaking first impression
- News
The developer doing my tour told me that everything in the game has AI scripting, not just the enemies. Falling trees will block roads, kill enemies, and provide much needed cover, but not always for you. The enemy AI will also use the terrain to their advantage, and will employ real world military tactics to find and kill you. With increased strength you can batter your enemies into submission and save your ammo for later....

Stalker: Clear Sky--Is Your System Ready?
- Articles & reviews
The war between the coalitions brings in a strategic element, although you just have to keep eliminating the enemies to control the most important bases. The artificial intelligence of the enemies is well engineered—only rarely can you surprise renegades, stopping them for a short while. Usually the marksman seek shelter and if you try to go around them, the enemy will walk with you in the same direction. Enemy soldiers and Stalkers guard their camps at night and observe their surroundings with binoculars, making sneaking up almost impossible....

For example, during the demo Molyneux confronted three enemies, one of which had a gun (yes, there are guns in Fable 2). When Molyneux's player raised his gun, the dog ran to attack the other two enemies that were wielding melee weapons. And if Molyneux used a melee weapon, the dog would take off after the enemy with the gun....

Bioshock Review
- Articles & reviews
Bioshock is a multi-faceted game; while it contains much of what has become standard to first person shooters, it expands on those traits with interesting gameplay mechanics (the plasmids, the realtionships between enemies etc.). This should be unsurprising as the team recently worked on SWAT 4, a solid shooter with admirable AI. Enemies work in teams to flank and attack, ensuring a feeling of constant pressure. These range from telekinesis to sprouting insects and sending them after enemies, and include more passive abilities to aid in combat and survival....

Attack on Pearl Harbor Review
- Articles & reviews
Thanks to its shameless detachment from reality, Attack on Pearl Harbor is saved from being a Red Baron-style “fly about for an hour and get shot down immediately” realistic combat flight sim and pushed immediately into the Rogue Squadron territory of “shoot down fifty enemy planes to win a medal”. Realism hasn’t been completely abandoned though; enemies moving at range require players to lead their targets. The Dogfight option gives customisable scenarios, allowing players to set the number of enemy fighters coming in waves, time limits, locations etc....

Stranglehold Hands-On Preview
- Articles & reviews
The second is a sniper mode that slows down time and kills the enemy in one hit. The third is a brute force mode, also in slow motion, that lets you you shoot your enemies without stopping, a real pleasure with the shotgun. As soon as it’s triggered the game handles itself; there are some extravagant camera effects, doves fly by and the room is cleared of enemies....
