    Former Hewlett Packard chairwoman Patricia Dunn has been cleared of all charges from HP's investigation into boardroom leaks. The judge in the case dismissed all charges, but federal prosecutors could still file their own charges against her. Four other defendants in the boardroom scandal have pled guilty to misdemeanor charges and will be given community service.

    Last week the news broke at HP about an investigation into a board leak at that company which may have been done improperly. In looking into this, I personally think this is an attempt to cover up what the big problem was and to misuse political influence. Since I'm writing this on September 11th, I'm very sensitive to the whole concept of cover your ass politics right now and feel it is worth while to provide what I think is a clearer perspective on the HP problem which, I think, has more to do with a misguided power play on HP's board than anything else right now.

    HP's boardroom scandal reached a new level on Friday when chief executive officer Mark Hurd was named chairman, replacing Patricia Dunn three months earlier than originally announced. A counseling law firm also confirmed that Hurd was aware of parts of the investigation, which included an email tracer, the search of phone records and the surveillance of individuals.

    UPDATE - Hewlett Packard this morning announced that Patricia Dunn, chairman of the board of Hewlett-Packard, will step down from her position in January, as a result of the recently reported board scandal.
