The Dempsey Xeon has a range of 2.67 to 3.73 GHz with corresponding model numbers ranging between 5030 and 5080. For Xeon server platform processors, Intel is planning the Dempsey series, which will initially feature two processor units on separate chips, packaged together. Dempsey will help Intel premiere its I/O Acceleration Technology (I/OAT), which promises to boost network performance through hardware-driven TCP/IP acceleration. Dual-core derivatives of Dempsey, called Bensley for the server market, and Glidewell for workstations, should be available in the first half of 2006. These two will likely retain Dempsey's server-centric technologies, including I/OAT and IAMT. The buffer provides the core's link to the FSB, rather than both cores linked to the FSB individually, as with Montecito and Dempsey....

In our story, I referred to Dempsey as "not technically dual-core," a view still upheld by some engineers outside of Intel, though apparently contradicting Intel's current definition. Austin added that we should clarify that Bensley and Glidewell are server and workstation platforms, respectively, that utilize the Dempsey processor....
