First off, probably the most significant processor that saw a decrease in average price is the FX-60, which is no longer officially supported by AMD, but has been in high demand, apparently. This week, it saw the biggest decline in price of all the processors we've been watching, dropping $80 from last week's price of $586 to $506, a 14% decrease, and a new record low for our charts. It's also worth noting that, amid the massive price decreases, the 5000+ took a completely opposite turn: Since October, we've recorded prices on the 5000+ in the mid to low $300 range....

On the most part, we saw a decreasing trend for AMD's processors. The FX-60 was the one that became the most overpriced, so this price decrease is critical for AMD. Also, thanks to a $37 week-to-week decrease for the 4800+, it now offers more performance than the Pentium D 960 at a lower price. One other thing of note is that the Intel EX6800 has begun to fall in place by a little bit, after a $19 decrease this week. It has been on a trend to decrease ever since the QX6700 was officially released....

Only one processor on the Intel side had a notable average price decrease, which was the Pentium D 820. The 820 dropped $15 from last week, decreasing from $103 to $88 and undercutting the Pentium D 805 for the first time. For AMD, the biggest price decrease was for the X2 5000...

It must be said that the Canadians’ job was, it seems, not as difficult at least from a numerical point of view, with 666 million transistors for this new chip versus, if you remember, 754 million on the G92 of the 8800 GT. Thus, contrary to NVIDIA, the number of transistors is decreasing compared to the previous chip, as the R600 totaled 700 million transistors. Yet, the number of computational units remains unchanged (when it was slightly decreasing with NVIDIA) with 320 stream processors.
