  • Desktop CPU Charts Q3/2008

    Tom's Interactive CPU Charts offer the most comprehensive x86 processor comparison on the Internet. The 2008 edition includes as many as 91 AMD and Intel desktop processors, which we tested across 35 individual benchmarks under Windows Vista. The benchmarks include industry standard software as well as popular workloads across multiple application categories, allowing you to find the CPU that meets your requirements (see benchmark details below the charts). The Charts are also a valuable tool if you want to check how your computer stacks up against current hardware. The 2008 charts include three different processor generations, starting with AMD's Socket 939 Athlons and Semprons, and including all Pentium 4 and Pentium D processors that were released for Socket 775.

  • Mobile CPU Charts 2007

    Tom's Interactive Mobile CPU Charts focus on popular mobile processors, which are used in laptops and notebooks because of their increased energy efficiency. We tested nine AMD and Intel processors tested across 15 different benchmarks using Windows XP. Core 2 Duo is the dominating processor in the notebook/laptop space and AMD's Turion 64 X2 has become a budget option. However, all of these dual core processors deliver sufficient performance for mainstream applications. The Price/Performance Index relates US$ costs to the overall performance.

  • Intel 'Kentsfield' quad-core benchmarks to flood the Net

    You can expect a flood of benchmarks for Intel's quad-core 'Kentsfield' processor to hit the Internet in the next day. Intel's latest chip is officially called the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 and is an enthusiast chip aimed at high-end gamers, graphical artists and others who run multi-threaded applications. Early benchmarks from Tom's Hardware Guide show the chip easily beating previous generation Core 2 Duo processors in some benchmarks, but the new chip is only marginally better in other tests.
  • UPDATE: First Core 2 Duo T7600 performance and battery benchmarks

    Tom's Hardware has received one of the very few available final test units of Intel's Core 2 Duo T-series CPUs, formerly code-named "Merom". During its initial two benchmark runs, the chip delivered first evidence that it can be up to 20% faster than Core Duo ("Yonah"), while consuming less or equal power. Our update includes a slideshow with benchmark numbers.

    After the surprisingly hard critics from Valve's Gabe Newell on NVIDIA yesterday, the press today got the chance to get our own performance numbers in Halflife 2. Within the scope of ATI's Shader Day event we were allowed to test on four machines that were provided by ATI. In the meantime, we also received an official statement from NVIDIA on the situation.
