  According to a security bulletin issued on 20 November 2002 by Microsoft, a critical buffer overflow vulnerability in an ActiveX control allows Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, and NT systems to be taken over by a hostile Web page or e-mail message.

  A new, "low-priority" Windows patch that began making its rounds yesterday changes the functionality of ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer and other browsers, apparently in an effort to appease a patent holding company, Eolas, whose claim to a critical piece of Internet software distribution technology appears likely to be finally upheld in court.
