  • AMD's forums hacked

    Visitors to AMD's website forums received a shock when their adware and virus scanners started blaring warnings about a possible Trojan horse being downloaded. Over the past few days visitors have been complaining about strange popup alerts and slow forum speeds. Apparently, the forum webpages were modified to include a link to a malicious Windows Metafile (WMF) image hosted on toolbarsdollars.biz. A major WMF vulnerability that allows hackers to hide code inside of image files was disclosed a few weeks ago and many users still have not patched against it.
  • Servers at top US university get hacked, details placed on Torrent sites

    The servers of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Harvard were hacked last month and the intruder appears to have placed the data on Torrent sites.
  • Blackhat 2006: Macbook hacked in a few seconds

    Security researchers speaking at the Blackhat computer security convention claim to have found a new vulnerability in wireless drivers. "Johnny Cache" and David Maynor talked about directly targeting the device drivers and then showed off a video that demonstrated an Apple Macbook being hacked. The pair said the vulnerability spans multiple wireless cards and operating systems.

    The man who hacked a notebook computer during the ConSecWest conference in Washington listed the item for sale on eBay, saying the exploit of the operating system "is most likely still present."
