• 65nm Xbox 360 CPUs delayed until mid-2007

  According to industry sources, plans to produce CPUs for the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console on 65nm at Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing will be pushed back until the middle of 2007, at least one quarter behind the original schedule.
• AMD schedules first 65nm processor shipments for H2 2006

  AMD today said that it is on track to ship its first 65 nm processors in the second half of this year. The company claims that it already has been producing a significant number of 65nm development test chips to lay the foundation for a volume conversion of its manufacturing process by mid-2007.

  Intel will be busy over the next 12 months: The company will not only introduce its first dual-core processor in the second quarter of this year, but plans substantial upgrades for any current desktop processor on its roadmap: The 500-series will receive 64-bit extensions, the 600-series will be first to offer Vanderpool technology, and 65nm versions of single- and dual-core Pentiums will hit the market in early 2006.

  AMD remains very secretive about its two-processor 4x4 platform, which aims to decrease the performance gap to Intel's dual-core and upcoming quad-core processors on the very high-end of the enthusiast PC segment. A new roadmap provides more insight in the firm's CPU plans for the next year or so - and indicates that AMD is collecting enough CPU supply to launch 4x4 on a broad basis.
