Rupert Murdoch May Be the Last Man Standing in DirectTV Bid

Telecommunications giant SBC has reportedly withdrawn its bid to acquire DirecTV from General Motors Hughes Electronics Corporation division. This leaves Rupert Murdoch's News Corp as the remaining bidder for GM Hughes Electronics, the parent company of DirectTV. This apparent backdoor coup by News Corp is ironic, considering that Murdoch has been pursuing the acquisition of GM's Hughes Electronics DirectTV for several years, but has been previously blocked by government regulatory bodies. All of the companies declined to comment on this story.
