Rumors Say That Microsoft Was Also Affected By Slammer Worm
Rumors indicate that a series of internal e-mails reveal that not even Microsoft’s own giant network was immune from the Slammer worm (also known as Sapphire). Now even Microsoft is starting to question its policy of relying on software patches to fix major security flaws. The reason that servers were affected at Microsoft will most likely continue to remain a mystery, but if Microsoft can’t get it right what hope does a typical IT shop have ?
Speaking of Slammer, the race is on to figure out who or where Slammer was created. Various security firms and security consultants are vying for the chance to find the responsible person or party and claim the fame that will go with this discovery.
