PS3's rumble controller rumbles PS2 cames
Foster City (CA) - Sony has confirmed that its pending PS3 controller that brings back the rumble pack will be fully backwards compatible with compatible PS2 games, according to Eurogamer.
The "Dualshock 3" controller was announced earlier this year and it brings back the rumble pack feature incorporated into the PS2 controls. Sony backed off of that feature, though, after it came into a legal conflict with Immersion over patent disputes. That case has since been settled.
According to media reports, the Dualshock 3 was not initially set to be compatible with Dualshock-enabled PS2 titles, but the latest PS3 firmware update has fixed that problem.
Even though it’s not available yet, support for Dualshock 3 is already built into some of Sony’s first-party PS3 games including Motorstorm, Ratchet & Clank Future, and Resistance.
The first wave of Dualshock 3 controllers are slated for release in the US by spring 2008.
