Robot Vehicles: Grand DARPA Challenge Part 2

On a chilly Saturday morning, hundreds of people gathered to watch some of the prototypes slated to usher in a new era of vehicle robotics. This era will likely one day be one in which robots, not humans, drive vehicles. However, this era also has yet to begin as this year, no one won the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Grand Challenge. In fact, none of the 14 robotic vehicles managed to self-drive themselves from Barstow, Calif. to Las Vegas, NV. The difficulty of the task became apparent, as bot after bot became disabled in the barren desert.
