Ricoh, Metricom to announce wireless camera
Ricoh's RDC-i700 camera will be equipped with a Ricochet wireless modem that can transmit images over the Internet at 128 kbps as well as e-mail and Web-browsing capabilities. The 3.34-megapixel camera will take high-quality pictures and video and will reportedly be available for about $1,300 by the end of the month. Though Ricoh says it expects demand to be high, the company seems to realize that the establishment of a high-speed 3G network must take place before the camera will fulfill its potential for consumers as well as businesses that require photographs.
