Reno to investigate Carnivore
U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno plans to review the FBI's new automated computer wiretapping system to determine whether it might infringe on privacy rights.
Dubbed Carnivore, the system can monitor e-mails, visits to Web sites and Internet chat sessions. Privacy advocates have expressed concern that it could scan private information about legal activities and result in excessive monitoring of online communications.
