Blu-ray discs and HD DVDs expected to carry region codes
Consumers who would like to view DVD movies from different geographic regions on one device are typically prevented from doing so through so-called "region codes" on DVDs. The same technology now appears to be finding its way into high definition media.
According to German technology news site Golem.de, word has it, that Blu-ray as well as HD DVDs will be coming with region codes. A Toshiba representatives told Golem.de that two thirds of HD DVD supporters currently favor the integration of region codes, which should be an indication of the devices to come.
We were not able to reach reach US representatives for Blu-ray and HD DVD for comment.
