Linux may not have moved all the way into the mainstream, but it's definitely gaining ground in the server market. Most server vendors now support the platform and the platform is making moves to support the servers. In Linux land, everyone seems to be working and playing well together. In that mutually cooperative vein, Red Hat just announced Red Hat Deluxe for Compaq's AlphaServer systems. Red Hat Linux 7.1 includes the new 2.4 kernel with improved SMP support and new configuration tools for setting up DNS, web, and print servers. New features of the OS include a system to notify you of new Errata and RPM updates, default settings that keep ports closed and Internet utilities inactive until needed, updated GNOME and KDE environments, and the XFree86 4.0.3 interface for 2D and 3D graphics. For a more thorough list of features, check out Red Hat's website . Red Hat Deluxe for AlphaServer systems is priced at $99.95.
