Record bid for Year2000.com domain

by - source: Tom's Hardware

The e-commerce craze reached new heights as the domain name Year2000.com was auctioned off on eBay for a record $10 million.

An eBay spokesman, however, said it will be another few days before they know if the bid is legitimate. The bidding for the domain name was private and the bidders' identities remain confidential.

The previous record for a domain name was set in November when eCompanies paid $7.5 million for Business.com to launch a business-to-business Internet service.

Year2000.com, a joint venture of Petrus & Associates and a subsidiary of Houston, Texas-based Internet marketing firm Tenagra Corporation, was created for disseminating information about the Y2K bug.
