Top 7 Reasons for PC Gamers to Get Windows 7
Yes, it will run Crysis.
With Windows 7 now finished, Microsoft's next challenge is to drive adoption. Those with high performance PCs made for gaming will only switch if there is a decent incentive to do so. While the nice Aero effects and new taskbar are reason enough for some of us who spend most of our time working on our PCs, gamers will need a little bit more.
Microsoft's Games for Windows site lists the following seven reasons for a PC gamer to get Windows 7:
1 - Performance
To quote a coworker: 'Across same hardware, Crysis runs awesome on Win7! Even better than XP!'. Code for the OS has been optimized for better all around performance for games. Whatever you're playing now should be a better experience in Windows 7.
2 - Compatibility
The top third-party games, services, and international versions of games have been tested in Windows 7, so you should not worry about Windows 7 breaking your games. Feel free to move to Windows 7 because whatever you're playing now should work fabulously in Windows 7.
3 - Discoverability
You can use Start -> Search to find any game you just downloaded or installed. No need to launch a separate application. Likewise, you won't need to launch a game to get more info about it: The Windows 7 Games Explorer can show you in-game statistics within a preview pane plus delivers up-to-date info about your favorite game publishers and gives you the opportunity to try new games.
4 - Easy updates
The new Games Explorer will notify you whenever updates are available for your games so you don't have to go searching for them yourself or have to launch the game to see if there's an update waiting.
5 - DirectX 11 support
DirectX 11 means better games, pure and simple, with more advanced features for games to use.
6 - Multitouch support
An increasing number of gamers are using multitouch devices. Windows 7 supports multitouch-capable machines, so you can buy the latest and greatest multitouch laptop or desktop confident it's going to work in Windows 7.
7 - Classics
Here's a bonus reason for you: Windows 7 is going to bring back Internet Backgammon, Internet Spades, and Internet Checkers because you can't spend all your time hardcore.

that is all great news in theory, but sometimes theory doesnt necessarily mean real world results. still it sounds great!
this is a terribly written piece. it reads like a lastminute essay written by the Microsoft marketing manager's ten year old son.
discoverability. come on. you're plugging the search feature. Games Explorer will require vendor's to sign up, we assume. what is the adoption on that?
classics. do i even need to say it?
this should have been five reasons why PC Gamers should move to Windows 7. Great product let down by shoddy journalism.

How much money does Tom's get from the Microsoft PR desk? You should probably disclose that.
I would turn off 3, 4, and 6.
Number 2 is really not a reason to upgrade, more "not a reason to not upgrade". It's nice to know if your planning to get Win7, but not a reason to get Win7.
Number 7: Meh.
Number 5: We are going to use our monopoly to do mean things to you.
The first reason is actually a reason to upgrade. Anyone know how Win7 compares to vista modified with V-lite?
OK, not all classic games will run on Windows 7, I already tried my original Duke Nukem 3D. I also had a fail with Privateer 2. But apart from games so old that they were made last century im not having any problems. All I can say to the guys who are ramping up tension and accusing MS of profiteering, you will just download a dodgy copy anyway cos YOU CANT HELP YOURSELVES. If you were that bothered about it you would stay using XP forever or use an Xbox instead.
Oh, and number 2 is badly written nonsense. First you say "top" games are tested in Win7 then you say "whatever" you play. So what if I play an older game that works great in XP, and breaks on Vista. It's likely it won't work on Win7 either.

The 6 comments as above and mine.
And US stories, prices and offers posted to a .co.uk site.
Its Vista users that are going to need a serious reason to swap. Xp users should see points 1 2 and 5 All true, I have tested lots and found no issues and always better visuals and FPS.Crysis 9.75 % increase.
I would like to see a list of games that dont work on Vista but do work on W7 though.
Mactronix
I've tried out the RC of Windows 7 and it is much better than Vista. I have less problems with strange install bugs for my games. I have yet to try out BF2 on W7 but it had me tearing out my hair on Vista!! However I am not convinced about upgrading from Windows XP. Perhaps now while you can preorder it. I do like the accelerated networking stack in Vista/W7. W7 is definately way, way more snapper than Vista - so worth the upgrade (begs the question why folk got Vista in the first place!!) Myself I got the free ticket to a W7 upgrade this autumn :-)
This article is pile of BS. You guys really need to check out Bit-tech Anandtech, etc for how to run a real technical website...
