Ravisent wins Xbox DVD contract
Ravisent Technologies has announced that its DVD playback software will be part of Microsoft's forthcoming Xbox game plan. Ravisent's best known product, CineMaster, lets PCs play DVD movies. The Xbox's DVD playback will be offered as an optional expansion pack, with remote, that will reportedly be comparable in features and quality to high-end set-top DVD players. Microsoft clearly wants to distinguish itself from rival Sony's PlayStation 2 console, the subject of some criticism over its DVD features.
