Rapper suit targets Napster users
Rap artist Dr. Dre upped the stakes in the legal battle over MP3-swapping firm Napster, suing not only the company but also those who use its software.
Citing five universities and college students to be named later, Dr. Dre - whose real name is Andre Young - asked the court to shut down Napster and award damages of $100,000 for each illegal copy of his work.
Napster's software allows people - at this point, mostly college students - to link up with each other's computers to share their music collections without paying companies or artists for the songs.
