Rambus wars inside Intel
According to two writers at the Electronic News, the war waged by Rambus Inc. in concert with Intel Corp. against the rest of the chip world has been going on within the giant chipmaker as well. Now that CEO Craig Barrett has admitted management's blunder, the engineers who warned their marketing bosses of the problems that would ensue if Rambus DRAM was embraced by the company are beginning to speak out, breaking the code of silence and raising tensions within the embattled company.
The article states that engineers who didn't "toe the party line" with regard to Rambus, were "punished with bad reviews" and had their careers severely damaged "because they did not become swept toward the cliffs with the rest of the lemmings." Moreover, sources from within the company indicate that it is not enough for Intel to make amends with the rest of the industry, with many firms now in bitter legal struggles with Rambus. Intel will also have to regain the trust of its own design staff who were stifled by dictates to follow the roadmaps of an outside company.
