Rambus Takes a Beating in Patent Fight
On Friday, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia granted a motion by Infineon Technologies AG to dismiss the remaining three claims of patent infringement brought by Rambus against Infineon. The claims are part of a suit filed by Rambus that claims its patents were used in SDRAMs and DDR SDRAMs manufactured and sold by Infineon in the U.S. According to The Register, Rambus originally brought claims of 57 patent infringements against Infineon. The three claims dismissed on Friday were the only ones left after the other 54 were dismissed earlier in the week. Because the ruling lets Infineon off the hook for paying royalties, memory manufacturers who actually did pay royalties may be banging on Rambus' door asking for refunds. Rambus issued a press release on Friday saying that it plans to appeal the ruling.
