Rambus Patent Claims Against Hynix Dismissed
Infineon, as we reported yesterday , isn't the only company to emerge victorious against Rambus. Hynix Semiconductor just announced that the United States District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed all but two of the more than 400 patent claims brought by Rambus against the company, finding that Hynix's single data rate (SDR) and double data rate (DDR) dynamic random access memory (DRAM) devices do not infringe Rambus' patents. The ruling was based on definitions issued by a court in the lawsuit between Rambus and Infineon. Hynix's allegations that Rambus committed fraud and violated the antitrust laws by its illegal behavior in JEDEC are still waiting to see a court ruling. According to Hynix, Rambus has already been found guilty of fraud in connection with its participation in JEDEC. Now that both Infineon and Hynix have received favorable rulings, you've got to figure that just about anyone who's been paying royalties to Rambus is on the phone to their lawyers as we speak.
