Rambus claims 1GHz DRAM breakthrough
Mountain View, Calif.-based Rambus claims to have developed the first DRAM capable of transferring data at speeds greater than 1GHz.
The 1066MHz memory is 33 percent faster than the industry's fastest 800MHz RDRAM, and will be aimed at giving 2.1GB/s of memory bandwidth, the company said. Production is scheduled for next year, with Samsung, Hyundai, Toshiba, Infineon and NEC planning support.
