Rambus case raises open standards questions
While open standards are frequently viewed in tech circles as a counter to harmful monopolistic forces, the legal conflict between Rambus Inc. and many of the biggest names in the microprocessor business tells another side of that story. Many of those being sued by Rambus allege that the design licenser misused the open standards process by patenting designs based on information discussed in standards-setting committees of the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council (JEDEC).
