Radeon HD 6950 Into a 6970 With a BIOS Hack
Free performance!

AMD's freshly released Radeon HD 6950 and 6970 are the new leaders for the chipmaker's graphics offerings.
Interestingly, both graphics parts are based off of the same Cayman core. We're not talking about just the same underlying technology, but apparently the cores are the same in both graphics parts. The only difference is the software that's flashed on the BIOS.
It turns out that those who have a Radeon HD 6950 can simply reflash their graphics card BIOS to enable those dormant parts of the GPU.
The process is outlined by TechPowerUp, so click through to check out how to unleash more power out of the Radeon HD 6950.

It should be noted that ,in quite a few cases, those parts may be dormant for a reason.
wish toms could get rid of the spammers..... this is death to nvidia, hopefully the gtx 560 will be good as its always good to have competition
Nice way to say £50-odd bob :]
It's definitely a better use of money than the £104 dell radeon 3450 that's in the advertising column at the top of the page...

Nah, this means nothing. At the end of the day, us enthousiasts are a tiny part of the market. The big money lies with the OEM's, and they don't do things like unlocking or BIOS flashing.
As for the 560, I'm sure it'll be all right. The 460 was a great card, unlike the other 4XX-cards that were downright disappointing. I don't see why the 560 couldn't follow in its tracks.
