RackSaver's 1U P4 and Dual Xeon Rack Servers
The ability to put more computing horsepower in a small space along with nearly unlimited expandability has helped rack-mounted servers gain in popularity in recent years. While this announcement is a tad dated (we all get a little behind over the holidays) it seems like fans of the skinny little computers would be interested, so here's the scoop. RackSaver's new 1U RS-1133, based on Intel's 2GHz+ Pentium 4 processor, is available in custom or turnkey packages and can use Rambus, SDRAM, or DDR memory. It has space for up to three hard drives, along with CD-ROM and floppy variations. You can stack up to 44 of these 2GHz+ P4 servers in a seven-foot cabinet for use as web servers, application servers, database servers, or a supercomputer cluster. The RS-1133 includes AGP video, a 10/100 Intel fast-Ethernet connection, and a 32Bit/33MHz expansion slot that can be used for Gig-E, Dolphin SCI, or Myricom Myrinet. It allows for up to 300GB of storage capacity with the CD-ROM and floppy installed. The RS-1133 has an Ultra ATA-100 IDE controller, serial and USB connectors, and supports both high and low voltage. Configured with Intel's 1.6GHz Pentium 4 processor, 256MB Rambus memory, 8MB AGP video, 20GB hard drive, the RS-1133 starts at $1199 (kind of weird that they would quote the price for a 1.6 GHz P4 instead of the 2 GHz).
RackSaver`s RS-1134 is a Dual Xeon Server in a 1U 19" rack mountable chassis. The server uses Rambus memory and can house up to three hard drives, along with CD-ROM and floppy options. The RS-1134's density allows for up to 88 of the 2.2Ghz+ Xeon processors to be stacked in a seven-foot cabinet. RackSaver says that clustering groups of these Dual Xeon servers together with their own individual processors, memory, hard disk, and connectivity, can be made to appear as one large, fast, server. The RS-1134 has a 32MB 4X AGP video card, 10/100 Intel fast-Ethernet connection, and a 64Bit/66MHz expansion slot for Gig-e, Dolphin SCI, or Myricom Myrinet.
