Q-bit life-span breakthrough

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado say they have found a way to extend by a factor of more than three the life of quantum states imprinted on q-bits. The fragile multiple states needed for quantum calculations typically last only a fraction of a second before surrounding "noise" drowns out the recorded information but the new technique make the possibility of performing quantum calculation much more feasible. The team canceled random noise by encoding information in a pair of ions.
