March 23rd Euro PS3 launch details revealed
London (England) - After it had to be pushed back to a 2007 release in Europe and Australia, the PS3 is finally heading to the rest of the world, for a lukewarm launch that comes after the hype surrounding Sony’s latest system has essentially died.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced the full release details for the 60 GB console. Following significant disapproval of the 20 GB version in the US and Japan, Sony opted to not offer the lower-scale system in Europe.
"We will focus on the launch of the one with a 60 gigabyte (GB) drive and have no plan now to introduce the 20 gigabyte model," an SCE spokesperson was quoted as saying in a Reuters story.
European consumers were outspokenly upset when Sony pushed back the release from November 2006 to "spring 2007" as part of the major reorganization of console allocation following a significant production shortage. Because the hype for the PS3 has dropped exponentially, the European launch is unlikely to spark as much pre-release drama as it did in the states.
