Preview of Codename: Panzers : "When Good Meat Goes Bad"

Sometimes it seems as if developers are following a pattern, as if they were stuck creating the same types of games and having trouble breaking free from the successes of past titles. They are fearful of innovation and improvement. In their second title, Codename: Panzers - Phase One, developer Stormregion dives back into Real Time Strategy and attempts to buck the trend by improving what worked and gutting what didn't.

Stormregion's first title was an RTS called S.W.I.N.E. that took place in an alternate world populated by peaceful rabbits and militaristic pigs. Just going by the vehicles, which seemed to be simultaneously from the future and the past, it would have been difficult to tell whereabouts in time the game took place, but the accents and uniforms of the anthropomorphic animals only thinly concealed their representation of the French and the Germans of our WWII. Though it was both good-looking and challenging, it sometimes seemed just a vehicle for Stormregion's writers whose humor didn't always hit the mark. I can only guess that Hungarian doesn't always translate perfectly to English.
