PQI to ship 64 GB 2.5" SATA flash disk in August

PQI announced at Computex that it will be shipping a 64GB 2.5" SATA flash disk to the US, Europe, Japan and China in August of this year.

The lightweight drive will have transfer speeds of up to and around 32 MB/s, we’re told, though we’d expect to find it coming in a bit lower than that in general usage. The low-power consumption and light-weight-rugged nature of the flash disks make them perfect fits for the likes of notebooks and cameramen (as our own Humphrey Cheung will attest) on the move.

The new drive won’t come cheap, however : Around $2000 is the price PQI quoted to us at their booth this afternoon. If you don’t want to spend quite as much, Samsung announced that it will be offering a 32 GB flash-based solid state disk drive (SSD) to the market later this year as well. Street pricing is expected to be about $1000 for this drive.
