PowerDVD Linux Supports DVD Acceleration
We all know that hardware can make software run faster and software can be written to run faster on hardware (especially if it is coded to run on a specific platform). Having hardware and software work and play well together is the key to an enjoyable user experience. CyberLink says it is working toward that goal and let us know about PowerDVD-Linux as evidence. The company says the app is the first Linux-based DVD software player/decoder to support a DVD playback acceleration standard interface (XvMC) for the Intel 810 and 815 chipsets. PowerDVD-Linux makes use of the motion compensation and alpha blending on these chipsets to reduce CPU loading for DVD playback and make multitasking possible on DVD-enabled devices. Cyberlink hopes that Internet appliance developers can use the software to build more responsive and cost-effective systems, such as DVD consumer devices that provide e-mail and web browsing capabilities.
