Phoenix launches inSilicon subsidiary
BIOS mogul Phoenix Technologies is cementing its stake in the system-on-a-chip business through its newly minted subsidiary, inSilicon.
Formerly known as Phoenix's silicon intellectual property group, inSilicon is unveiling an architecture to enable "Lego-style" assembly of multiple peripheral cores by reusing hardware and firmware interfaces that are common to all.
Drawing from the industry-defined Virtual Component Interface 2.0 specification, the company's technology will enable system-on-a-chip designers to create I/O subsystems from any VCI-based peripherals, according to a story posted at www.techweb.com .
