AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 'Black Ops' Overclocking
Overclockers to push the new Phenom II X6 as far as it can go this Friday.
AMD today launched its hexacore solution for enthusiasts. While getting a six-core chip from Intel will set you back $1,000, the AMD solution can be had for just $200 (or $285 for the top-end one).
"With AMD Phenom II X6 processors, discerning customers can build an incredible, immersive entertainment system and content creation powerhouse,” said Bob Grim, director of Client Platform Marketing at AMD. “AMD is answering the call for elite desktop PC performance and features at an affordable price.”
AMD Phenom II X6 processors feature new Turbo CORE technology that transfers performance to three dedicated cores operating at higher frequency. AMD Phenom II X6 processors can shift to Turbo mode for demanding games and productivity software which may employ two or three cores, or shift back to six real cores for the demands of core-hungry content creation and immersive 3D applications.

To celebrate the launch of its latest CPU product, AMD is holding a special overclocking event completely live and set up for streaming over the internet. On April 30th, starting at 12 noon Central Time, eight overclocking teams from around the world are going to find out just how fast they can push the new CPUs. Check out the BlackOps site for more.

Im wondering how good these will be compared to the 4 core computers. Im sure they will be great, but 6 cores? jeeze.
Is that all these processors cost..$200 - $285? Bargain.
6 Cores for $200! Bargain!
Yup... Just over $33 per core for AMD's top of the range processor. Very impressive! - Good news for overclockers too: If you accidentally fry a $200 chip then it hurts but you'd have to have balls of steel to even consider risking it on a $1000 chip!
Uh no, not necessarily... although $200 for a hexacore (hexcore or w/e) is great, and it also makes it relatively overclocking friendly due to the low price , however if you do have the cash to spend $1k on a processor, chances are that u're filthy rich, in which case u wouldn't mind frying ur 1k CPU; ofcourse u wouldn't do that on purpose, but wouldn't need to have "balls of steel" to do it...
From what I have read about the new 6 cores I don't think they are made for any type of Gaming. They are there to fill the gap in actual work load on the PC. I am kinda surprised though that they can render just as fast as Intel's 975s and stay in the sub $300 market. As of right now I am going to stick with my C3 AMD 955.

I'VE GOT BALLS OF STEEL...
I think the logic he's pointing out is that with AMD you get five attempts for the same price. And why would anyone with any sense buy something that costs 5 times more (all things taken into consideration of course)? I for one would be likely to have a go on the AMD chip, but NOT the Intel.
Most people who have money to burn aren't dumb enough to waste it. I don't have balls of steel. If I had that kind of money to waste I'd buy a Mac (yessss, see how I can get my Mac hate into any conversation).
Seems like a good price, but it isn't really.
