Pentium 4 Xeon Launch Bumped
With all the shortages, scheduling problems, and manufacturing challenges, its sometimes seems like processor vendors have adopted the Microsoft model of putting dates on releases. The Pentium 4 Xeon workstation and server processor, scheduled for release today, has hit a snag related to "packaging issues." According to The Register , the problem has to do with the daughtercard and related components onto which the CPU is mounted. Another story on Yahoo News says that a chip fabrication problem could cause delays in manufacturing the 0.13 micron standard necessary for producing the forthcoming 2GHz-plus version of the Pentium 4. Apparently, the machine Intel needs to fabricate the chips won't be available until Q4 of this year.
