Pentagon: Y2K won't cause WWIII
The Pentagon has announced that U.S. military computers and weapons are prepared for the critical Y2K roll-over on Dec. 31.
Deputy defense secretary John Hamre said $3.6 billion dollars was spent over the past 18 months to fix more than 7,600 U.S. military computer systems - among them, more than 2,100 "mission critical" systems, including those involved with missile warning radar.
He added that the Pentagon has provided Russia with about $10 million dollars to help secure its nuclear weapons system, and that no nuclear missile warning crisis is expected due to possible computer glitches in Moscow.
