I don't usually cover laptops, but Fujitsu's LifeBook B Series has a pen-enabled touch screen, which makes it a little different from many mini PC devices. It also has a 10.4" XGA TFT with an anti-reflective coating for outdoor viewing and integrated IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN technology that operates in the 2.4GHz spectrum. Fujitsu plans to ship units with integrated 802.11b wireless LAN in December. The unit measures 9.92 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep by 1.26 inches high, and weighs less than three pounds with a main (three-cell) Lithium ion battery installed and 3.3 pounds with the standard high capacity (six-cell) battery. Fujitsu says you can get five hours of operation from the high-capacity battery but, as with everything, your mileage may vary. The mini-notebook is powered by a 700MHz mobile Intel P3 ultra low voltage processor-M with 512K on-die L2 cache and has an ATI RAGE Mobility-M1 video controller with 8MB of video. You can choose to have Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional, as well as Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows 2000 Professional pre-installed. The LifeBook B Series will ship in mid-November at an estimated street price starting at $1,999. All LifeBook B Series include a connectivity combo port consisting of either a built-in 56K V.90 modem and 10/100 Base-Tx Ethernet or the combination of a modem and IEEE 1394. The LifeBook B Series also comes with an external USB floppy disk drive and two Type II or one Type III PC Card slots, and an optional CD-ROM drive.
