PCTEL's HSP Modem for Laptops
PCTEL's new MicroModem is a 12.15-cm2 card that was designed for integration into Dell's Latitude and Inspiron notebooks. The PCT2304WT MicroModem is a software-based modem design that incorporates a silicon DAA from PCTEL's supplier, Silicon Laboratories Inc. The design eliminates the need for a relay and opto-isolators that are typically used in discrete component DAA modem implementations. By using only 15 percent of the power required by a hardware-based PC card modem, the software-based modem is intended to conserve a notebook's battery power.
