Northrop Grumman's division, PRC, has received patent approval for a computer platform that provides the military and private businesses the architecture capability to detect digital intrusion and computer attacks, as well as to create a predetermined method of response. The architecture allows the system to be set up so that once an intrusion has been detected, it will create a trap, where the intruder is studied by the system while he falsely believes he has hacked into the actual system architecture. So far, the U.S. Army has tested the system.
Known as Security Kinetix, according to Julie Huff, one of the team of inventors at PRC, this invention is a "systems architecture built on dynamic `agents,' which stand guard on individual nodes and, depending on their mission of the moment, act as either security guards or spies....The reason this lends itself to defensive and offensive uses is that it's a very small footprint, it's very flexible, and it does not do a lot of talking over the network."
