Passionate About Technology: the MSNBC Cybersex Survey
Apparently, there are more one-handed typists out there than we realized, based on the results of MSNBC.com's 2000 Online Cybersex Survey. The survey results show that almost one in 10 respondents indicate they are addicted to sex and the Internet. The survey, conducted during June 2000, received responses from over 38,000 users and found that people who engage in online sexual activities they do it to break away from their daily routines, explore fantasies, relieve stress and spice up their sex lives. MSNBC says their website surveys are self-selected and unscientific, not the random samples used by polling organizations. Wonder if that means the results are skewed toward MSN subscribers? Results also show that respondents spend nearly three hours online each week devoted to sexual activities. The survey shows that when broken down by gender, 9.9 percent of men report an addiction to sex and the Internet, compared to 6 percent of women. While over half of respondents said distraction was their primary reason for engaging in sex online, education and fantasy were nearly tied for second place. Thirteen percent of those polled say they utilize the Internet to educate themselves on new sexual positions and sexually transmitted diseases. I would imagine that one could figure out something more creative than sitting upright in a chair gazing at a CRT. More than eleven percent indicated a preference for acting out fantasies in private chat rooms. Man, as I write this, all the comments I can think of are in the PG13 range (at least). Must talk to the boss. For more information on the survey check out MSNBC.com . Let's see, "input devices," "sight navigation," "left-handed mice," well, the possibilities were endless, but this is a family show.
