Palm's m125 Handheld

by - source: Tom's Hardware

If you're finally ready to replace that crusty old Newton, Palm's now offering the Palm m125, which falls at about the mid-range in pricing for its PalmPilot progeny. The m125 has an estimated U.S. price of $249 and includes a bunch of bundled software. It runs version 4.0 of the Palm OS, uses the Dragonball VZ 33 MHz processor, operates on two AAA batteries, and includes 8MB of RAM. The gadget's dual-expansion architecture offers expansion via a Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard and Palm's Universal Connector for hardware accessories. In addition to the seven Palm cards already available - the PalmPak Travel Cards, Games Card, Dictionary/Thesaurus Card, Backup Card, and 16MB Expansion Card - Palm is introducing five new PalmPak cards. These include the Rand McNally Road Atlas, PalmPak Language Translator Card, and three PalmPak eBook Series Cards. The new cards are scheduled to be available in November. Palm's Universal Connector provides an additional expansion option for USB or serial synchronization that also lets you attach add-on products like Kodak's PalmPix camera and Novatel's Minstrel wireless modem. The m125 also includes a USB cradle to let you back up and transfer your data via HotSync operation to a PC or Mac. The m125 is bundled with nine applications that include DataViz Documents To Go 3.0, PocketMirror 3.0.2, Palm Reader 1.0, Palm Mobile Connectivity Kit, MultiMail SE and HotSync Mail, MGI PhotoSuite Mobile Edition 2.21, AvantGo Mobile Internet Service, AOL Mail 2.1, and Vindigo. The Palm m125 handheld is available now in the United States for around $249. It is expected to be available in most international markets (excluding Japan) beginning Sept. 20. Outside the United States, you can choose from five languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.
