OWC Introduces Fast, Cheap 275MB/s SSD for $68

by - source: OWC

OWC released a new SSD for PCs and Macs, which the company describes as the cheapest high-performance SSD on the market.

For $68, the Mercury Extreme Pro 3G drive is good for a sustained data read rate of up to 275 MB/s, according to OWC. The downside: you don't get much capacity as the drive has a capacity of just 30 GB. the manufacturer also promises that the Extreme Pro 3G is "up to 100x" better in "data protection" than "ordinary SSDs" as it integrates "RAID-like" reliability.

For Mac users, the 2.5-inch drive includes a firmware updater should the software need an update in the future. the company offers a 3.5-inch case adapter for $3. The Extreme drive is also available in flavors of 40, 60, 115, 240 and 480 GB with prices ranging from $88 to $860.

The 6G versions are available from 60 GB to 480 GB for $130 to $895.

So a 30GB drive for ~£50?

That's bloody expensive £/GB considering my 120GB Corsair came in at under £145.
