Mountain Dew

Mountain Dew is not actually an energy drink in the sense of Red Bull, and it's certainly a lot older. Often used for that afternoon pick-me-up, it's a mix of glucose syrup and caffeine. Speaking from personal experience, I have to say the taste of the Dew is more likely to make you sick than pick you up, but some people like it.

Upon waking up: Sluggish Snail
After drinking: Bobbing Bobcat
15 minutes after drinking: Rocketing Rabbit
30 minutes after drinking: Bobbing Bobcat
An hour after drinking: Ambling Armadillo

As you can see the Dew hits the spot much quicker than Red Bull and dies out slower than it as well. I put that effect down to the glucose. It has its down side, though...

The Buzz

The glucose that provides such wonderful results on our fiddle the sheep experiment is often drunk by athletes and sportsmen giving their all for protracted amounts of time. The concentrated sugar, which incidentally is what makes plants go, makes you want to get up and get active.

The Crash

After the buzz, thankfully, the crash is not nearly as dramatic as with many of the other drinks reviewed here. There is very little in the way of headaches, cravings or shaking after drinking even quite a bit of Mountain Dew - and the distinct taste and texture is not something that you'd crave to drink in large amounts anyways.

The Other Stuff

I think that the sporty impulses provided by the Dew are enough reason to stay away from it unless you happen to be the office runner or something....
