Organic lasers to change PCs?
Researchers at Lucent Technologies Bell Labs have produced an organic material that can produce laser light and could change the computer chip as well as display technologies. Called tetracene, the material forms a crystalline structure at 200 degrees Celsius and has perfect electronic and optical characteristics for producing lasers. Developers are interesting in using the technology to create "very low-cost electronic and photonic circuits on plastic substrates" as well as "polymer LEDs for display."
