As part of a US government test program, several hundred military employees and their families were allowed to cast online Florida state votes in the delayed presidential election. Technically, the votes were part of an alternative absentee-ballot submission system, but the scrutiny associated with the recount may have an effect on efforts to adapt widespread online voting.
