Olympus' Miniscule 4 Megapixel Digital Camera

It's already September, so you probably don't need a new camera for your summer vacation. However, the holidays are on the way and if you're looking get comfortable with a digital camera before taking pictures of your friends making fools of themselves on New Year's Eve, Olympus has a new zoom-enabled camera that you can hide in your pocket. The 4 Megapixel D-40 ZOOM measures 3.4" (wide) x 2.7" (high) x 1.7" (thick) and uses a new 2.8x optical zoom lens. The D-40 includes Olympus' Enhanced Color Management system, which customizes color settings for each of the camera's different shooting modes. The D-40 also has a noise reduction mode for nighttime photos and can produce 2272 x 1704-pixel resolution files that you can use to make prints up to 11" x 14" or 16" x 20" using the camera's Image Enlargement mode. An LCD menu interface gives you access to commonly used functions, and three of the four default menu categories in the menu can be programmed as shortcuts. You can also record motion footage with audio using the built-in speaker and microphone. The D-40 ZOOM will be available October 2001 for around $799. It ships with a 16MB Olympus SmartMedia memory card, USB cable, AV cable, one LB-01 Lithium battery (you can also use two standard AA batteries), RM-1 remote control, Olympus Camedia Master Software for image manipulation and creation, instruction manual, QuickStart Guide, and strap.
