OELs to replace LCDs, CRTs?
Sony Corp. is showing a prototype of an active-matrix organic electroluminescent (OEL) display that it hopes will succeed LCDs and CRTs as the display technology of the future. The displays employ organic electroluminescence that generates its own light, negating the needs for backlighting and enabling thin, bright monitors. Sony plans to begin production in 2003.
